You can visit our website without sharing personally identifiable information, but you will be required to provide personally identifiable information in order to sign up for an account on the Platform and to use the Platform. We will collect any personally identifiable information from or about you that you choose to submit to us, which may include your name, email address, physical address, zip code, telephone number, birthdate, and financial information. Specifically, we collect your personally identifiable information when you create an account on the Platform, when you populate your student or instructor profile, when you search for instructors and tutoring services using the Platform, when you pay for tutoring services, when you sign up as an instructor, in receiving and fulfilling information requests, when you provide User-Generated Content (as discussed below), and when you respond to communications from us (e.g., surveys).
To create an account on the Platform you will need to submit your first name, last name, email address, and telephone number. The information you submit when creating an account will be used to populate your profile within that account. You may populate your profile with other types of information that you choose to submit, for example, an “about me” narrative, your interests, and a profile photograph. To sign up as an instructor on the Platform, you will also need to submit your physical address, birthdate, and the last four digits of your social security number. As an instructor, you may further populate your profile with other types of information that you choose to submit, for example, your background, your teaching experience, tutoring session subjects and pricing, tutoring session location options, and your availability.
As a student, only instructors with whom the student has scheduled a tutoring session will be able to view your profile information, including your telephone number, but excluding your email address. As an instructor, with the exception of your email address, birthdate, physical address, the last four digits of your social security number, and your telephone number, all other profile information will be publicly available to all Platform users. Instructor telephone numbers will be provided to students that schedule tutoring sessions with that instructor.
To search for available tutoring services using the Platform you will need to submit a geographic location (or allow us to access your location via your device’s location services settings) and identify the types of tutoring services you are interested in. In order to schedule a tutoring session using the Platform you will need to select an instructor, specify the date(s), time(s), and location(s) for the tutoring services, and price. As an instructor, you will be required to submit information on the tutoring services that you provide and the corresponding pricing, which information Company will use to populate the Platform.
Upon the conclusion of a tutoring session both the student and the instructor will be required to rate the other’s performance. Ratings of instructors will be displayed as part of the instructor’s profile and ratings of students will be displayed as part of the student’s profile to instructors with whom the student has scheduled a tutoring session.
As a student, the Platform will allow you to initiate chats with instructors from whom you have requested tutoring sessions and, as an instructor, you will be able to initiate chats with students who have requested tutoring sessions from you. If you use any chat feature on the Platform, we will collect, and we may link to your Platform account, all text and other information that you enter or submit using that feature. Please note that the content of your chats will not necessarily be maintained or treated as confidential.
The Platform allows you to create, post, transmit, upload, publish, distribute, broadcast, submit, or otherwise provide comments, data, text, images, video, audio, and other content and material via the Platform, including by creating a student or instructor profile (together, “User-Generated Content”), for example, by populating your Platform profile as discussed above. You are responsible for all User-Generated Content that you provide using the Platform. User-Generated Content that you provide is posted on the Platform at your own risk. We cannot guarantee that submitted User-Generated Content will not be viewed by unauthorized persons. You understand that, even after removal, copies of User-Generated Content that you have submitted may remain viewable in cached and archived pages and may have been copied or stored by Internet archives and other Platform users. For more information on submitting User-Generated Content, please review our Terms of Service. Company may use and disclose User-Generated Content as described in the Terms of Service.
If you use the Platform while signed into your Company account, we will collect information on how you use your account and the Platform, for example, the types tutoring services you search for, the number of hours you have spent providing tutoring services to Platform students, complete tutoring session details (including, for example, locations, prices, dates, times, subject matter, and ratings), and the number of hours you have spent receiving or providing instructional services via the Platform.
The servers used to operate and provide the Platform may collect data pertaining to you and the equipment, software, and communication methods you use to access the Internet and the Platform, including Internet protocol (“IP”) addresses assigned to the computers and other devices from where you access the Internet, your Internet service provider (ISP), your device ID number, your approximate geographic location, your browser type, the pages you access on the Platform, the websites you access before and after visiting the Platform, the length of time you spend on the Platform, date and time stamps, and clickstream data. Company may use this information to administer the Platform and its servers, to generate statistical information, to monitor and analyze Platform traffic and usage patterns, to monitor and prevent fraud, to investigate complaints and violations of our policies, and to improve the Platform’s content and the products, services, materials, and other content that we describe or make available through the Platform. We may combine this information with personally identifiable information, other Collected Information, and information obtained from third parties for security reasons. The suppliers that we use to provide the Platform may collect information about your visits to the Platform and other websites.
From time to time the Platform may participate in or use advertising networks and related advertising services that are managed and provided by third-party advertising servers, advertising agencies, technology vendors, and research firms. These services collect anonymous information about your visits to and interactions with the Platform and other websites and will use that information to target advertisements for goods and services. These targeted advertisements may appear on the Platform or on other websites. Advertising networks often gather data about consumers who view advertisements to make inferences about a consumer’s interests and preferences, which enables their computers to deliver advertisements targeted directly to the consumer’s specific interests. This practice is often referred to as “online behavioral advertising.” For example, a third-party advertising network might collect information on the type of Internet browser you use, the type of computer operating system you use, the domain name of a website you visit, whether or not you visit specific pages of the Platform or other websites, the location of your Internet service provider, the date and time of a visit to a website, and other interactions between you and websites.
We may also enable and implement the following Google Analytics Advertising Features: Remarketing with Google Analytics, Demographics and Interest Reporting, Segments, DoubleClick Campaign Manager Integration, and DoubleClick Bid Manager Integration. Remarketing with Analytics uses Google Analytics cookies to serve advertisements to you across the Internet based on your visit to the Site. Demographics and Interest Reporting uses a third-party cookie to collect information about our Site traffic by tracking users across websites and across time, which generates a report for us to better understand our Site users. Segments allows us to isolate and analyze subsets of Site users by sorting our Google Analytics data. DoubleClick Campaign Manager Integration and DoubleClick Bid Manager Integration allow us to view, analyze, and create remarketing lists using our DoubleClick Campaign data. To opt out of remarketing advertising provided through Google, to customize your ad preferences, or to limit Google’s collection or use this information, visit Google’s Safety Center and Google’s Ad Settings and follow Google’s personalized ad opt-out instructions. Opting out will not affect your use of the Site.
We may also enable and implement Facebook Pixel Advertising Features: Remarketing, Demographics and Interest Reporting, and other similar features. Remarketing with Pixel uses Facebook cookies to serve advertisements to you on Facebook and Instagram based on your visit to the Site. Demographics and Interest Reporting uses a third-party cookie to collect information about our Site traffic by tracking users across websites and across time, which generates a report for us to better understand our Site users.
To change your preferences with respect to certain online ads and to obtain more information about third-party ad networks and online behavioral advertising, please visit the National Advertising Initiative Consumer opt-out page or the Digital Advertising Alliance Self-Regulatory Program. Please remember that changing your settings with individual browsers or ad networks will not necessarily carry over to other browsers or ad networks. As a result, depending on the opt-outs you request, you may still see our ads from time to time.
The Platform may also use the advertising services and networks offered by those social media platforms to deliver advertising content. Use of these services requires social media platforms to implement cookies or pixel tags to deliver ads to you while you are logged into the platform.
If you do not wish a social media platform to collect information relating to you via the Platform, we suggest that you: (a) do not connect to or share information with that social media platform using the Platform; (b) hide social media platform plug-ins using an ad blocker; (c) always log off completely from the social media platform before visiting other websites and delete all related cookies; and, (d) where the option made available by the social media platform, disable the advertising services and networks operated by that platform.
We will use your personally identifiable information and other Collected Information for the purpose for which it was collected, for example, to process your requests for tutoring sessions, to process and communicate with you in connection with your requests and your account, and to provide you with information and communications that you request. If you are using the Platform as a student, we will share your name with any instructor that you have booked a session with. If you have signed up as an instructor, your profile will be viewable by all other Platform accountholders and we will share your birthdate, physical address, and the last four digits of your social security number with our payment processor, Stripe, so that Stripe can verify your identify before sending you payment for your tutoring services. Your location information will be used to locate instructors providing services in your area and to understand where our users are located. Upon the scheduling of a tutoring session, the student’s and instructor’s telephone numbers will be made available to the other via the Platform. If you contact us for support or assistance in using the Platform, we may use Collected Information to determine whether or not your system meets the minimum requirements needed to access and use the Platform and otherwise to contact you regarding your request.
We may aggregate personally identifiable information and other Collected Information to create anonymous aggregate data on Platform users, which describes users as a group but does not reveal the identity of individual users. We may use aggregate data to understand Platform users’ needs, to determine Platform user demographics and usage patterns, to determine what kinds of products and services we can provide, and to improve and enrich our products, our services, and the Platform.
We may use Collected Information: to analyze, develop, and improve the content, materials, products, and services that we make available through the Platform and the Platform’s functionality; to inform marketing and communication plans and strategies; to evaluate user needs and customize Platform content, promotional emails, and your browsing experience; and for other legitimate and lawful business purposes.
We may use Collected Information and share it with third parties to the extent permitted by applicable law, including in the event of a subpoena, court order, or law enforcement request. Company will use Collected Information and share it with third parties if we believe doing so is necessary to operate the Platform or to protect our rights or the rights of others, including disclosing information necessary to identify, contact, or bring legal action in the event of a violation of our contracts, terms, or policies.
The Platform is not directed at children under 13 years of age. Company does not knowingly collect or use information from children under 13 through the Platform.
If you are visiting the Platform from outside the United States, please be aware that Collected Information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States (where our and our suppliers’ servers and databases are located and operated). The data protection and related laws and regulations of the United States might not be as comprehensive as those in the country from which you are accessing the Platform.
To access or update your personally identifiable information as it exists in our records, please visit the profile you have created for yourself in your online Company account, if applicable, or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
